Our current day-to-day lives are a constant race. We are always rushing, never taking a moment to stop and analyze our current state of mind. We don’t allow ourselves to process events or traumas because to show ourselves as vulnerable implies weakness.
Stress, anxiety, and fear are very present in our day-to-day lives. We are in a constant state of flight or fight. We see this every day, from young children to adolescents and adults. Studies have shown that being in this state all the time can cause serious health problems, including depression, panic attacks, stomach ulcers, allergies, and more. Allowing ourselves to add weekly or monthly self- care, using alternative therapies such as Reiki, can be a great ally, allowing our body, mind, and spirit to rest, renew, recharge, and regenerate. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and connecting to the life force energy that flows through us. This life force energy is what causes us to be healthy in mind, body, and spirit. Through personal experience in my 5 years of practice, I have seen clients as young as 5 years old recover from a nervous tick caused by a car accident, I’ve seen it help a 10-year-old with a minor attention problem improve concentration and demeanor, and a young man slowly recover from a mentally and emotionally debilitating trauma. Why? Because Reiki allows our bodies and mind to rest, to process the stress and the trauma in a healthy, spiritual way. It allows our bodies to turn off their flight and fight mode and rest in a natural state of being which is vital for optimal health. Reiki can be the saving grace needed to help our community heal and find a natural, healthy state of being for all, young and old.
